East Layton Mine
As one of a number of small copper mines in the Richmond area of Yorkshire, East Layton worked in the late 18th century and closed in 1812. William Clay and partners had the mine until 1810 and installed a steam engine for pumping. That engine was replaced by one of 53.3hp when Thomas Lumley and partners took over the mine between 1810 and 1813.
