In January 1839 a 16 year old boy was found dead in Messrs Evans and Company’s Robin Hill coal pit. Being homeless he had slept down the pit and may have been suffocated by blackdamp. Robin Hill does not appear in the List of Mines until 1869, when it was owned by the Oldham, Middleton & Rochdale Colliery Co. Ltd. It worked until around 1880.
