This drift, near Thwaite in Swaledale, worked the Tan Hill coal, here called the Stockdale Seam. It had two levels, plus one in the shale above the seam, and worked a seam which dipped at 1 in 12 to the north-west. The seam section was:-

Coal 19 inches
Dirt Band 3
Coal
Dirt Band
Coal 15

The mine, which closed in 1931 and was abandoned in April 1932, reputedly sold its coal at 4d per cwt.
