COLLIERY PROSPECT
LOCATION Approx. ¾ mile west of LNWR West Coast main line and ½ mile south of Standish Jc.

Shafts
Two shafts 11 feet diameter sunk through faulted ground to Arley Mine at 390½ yards from surface.

Winding
Twin cylinder vertical engine by Messrs Nasmyth of Patricroft, 24 inches x 60 inches, rated at 328 horse power at 450 feet per minute piston speed. Supplied with steam brake and capstan engine.
Engine placed between shafts winding one cage in each. Coal wound in downcast shaft, upcast shaft cage acting as counterweight. Headgears of timber each with a single pulley 14 feet diameter.

Ventilation
Furnace. (Circulating 58,815cfm. at 1.85 inches wg. in 1894)

Boilers
No details. Probably egg-end boilers in early years.
Square section brick chimney.

Seams
Worked small area of Wigan Four feet and Wigan Five Feet. Large areas of Cannel, Haigh Yard and Arley mines.

CLOSURE
Production ceased 1915. Retained for pumping.
Abandoned September 1934.
