COED POETH. Denbighshire. 5th. October, 1850.

The men went down to their work as usual and found firedamp and immediately tried to escape but the explosion took place before they were out of the pit. Three were killed and two others were in a hopeless state from suffocation. The mine was ventilated in the usual way but the miners preferred to use naked lights instead of lamps.
