SHIPLEY. Derby, Derbyshire. 4th. March, 1857.

The colliery was owned by A.M. Mundy and an explosion of gas claimed eight lives.

Those who died were:

  • John Stabuck miner aged 24 years.
  • Abraham Stabuck miner aged 43 years.
  • Abraham Starbuck jnr. trammer aged 13 years.
  • Thomas Hensham trammer aged 15 years.
  • Joseph Richardson miner aged 25 years.
  • John Purdy miner aged 36 years.
  • Joseph Fowles miner aged 20 years.
  • Job Richardson miner aged 21 years.
