LIBANUS SINKING PIT. Monmouthshire. 22nd. January, 1871

The colliery was the property of the Prothero Brothers and five men lost their lives when the sides of the pit caved in.

The men who died were all sinkers:

  • Walter Treasure aged 45 years,
  • William Tovey aged 30 years,
  • William Poole aged 30 years,
  • Morgan Richards aged 28 years,
  • William Johnson aged 27 years.
