SLATTYFORD. Slattyford, Northumberland. 8th. September, 1796.

Six people were drowned when water from an old waste flooded the pit. In 1797, Mr. Thomas, of Denton, read a paper on the need to keep plans of colliery workings to the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle-on-Tyne. He proposed that voluntary contributions should be made but the scheme failed to create enough interest to lead to the proposals being carried out.
