Shafts
Two shafts were sunk at Bugle Horn by Edward Johnson during the early 1870s. At this time Edward Johnson also took a lease on the nearby Swan Lane and Long Lane collieries. (ref. Peden/Smith/Townley).
Unsworth & Cowburn sank Carr Common Colliery during the early 1900s. In view of the number of collieries working in this area the extent of the “take” or royalty available to both collieries must have been very limited.

CLOSURE – Bugle Horn and Carr Common both abandoned 1930.

NOTE
Edward Johnson commenced sinking at Golborne (4½ miles S. of Wigan), in 1878, selling to Richard Evans & Co. in 1880. Edward Johnson was declared bankrupt in 1886. (A. Davies and Peden/Smith/Townley).
