Shafts
Two shafts 16 feet diameter, downcast and upcast, sunk to Pemberton Four Feet Mine. Shafts commenced 1892, intersecting the Pemberton Four Feet at 407 yards. (NOTE – The Pemberton Four Feet and the Pemberton Two Feet unite 200 yards south of the shafts to form the Bickershaw Seven Feet Mine).

Winding
No.1 (Upcast) Pit, twin cylinder horizontal engine by Worsley Mesnes Ironworks, 1892, 26 inches x 60 inches, Eatock’s Patent slide valves, parallel winding drum 16 feet diameter, in three sections. Winding ropes 1½ inches dia. fitted with Ormerod detaching hooks, four wire rope conductors to each cage. Four 10 cwt. capacity tubs carried in double deck cages. Winding (1898) from Ince Four Feet Mine at 280 yards.
No.2 (Downcast) Pit, twin cylinder horizontal engine by Robert Daglish, St Helens, 1892, 36 inches x 72 inches, Eatock’s Patent slide valves, parallel cast iron winding drum, 20 feet diameter x 9 feet wide, made in three sections each with eight arms, wood lagged (oak) 6 inches thick, centre brake path. Winding ropes 1¾ inches diameter fitted with Ormerod detaching hooks. Three wire rope conductors for each cage. Six 10 cwt tubs wound in double deck cage. Winding (1898) from Pemberton Four Feet horizon.

Headgears of pitch pine construction 67 feet to pulley centres. Bank height 24 feet above ground level.

Underground Haulage
Pemberton Mines (Four Feet and Five Feet) – Haulage engine located at surface. Cross-compound by Wood & Gee, Wigan, 18 inches + 31 inches x 36 inches, cut-off slide valves HP, plain slide valve LP. Geared to 3rd. motion shaft carrying a 8 feet diameter Clifton pulley. Endless driving rope passing down downcast shaft to vertical shaft with 8 feet diameter Clifton pulley 300 yards inbye. A 6 feet diameter Clifton pulley and friction clutch on shaft operated endless rope haulage.

Three inbye compressed air haulage engines inbye in Five Feet Mine.

Air Compressing
Cross-compound single-stage air compressor by Walker Bros., 24 inches + 40 inches x 42 inches, expansion slide valves on HP, plain slide valve on LP. Two air cylinders 24 inches x 42 inches, air pressure 80psi., steam 100psi.

Pumping
Lodge room at 124 yards. Wood & Gee pumping engine 24 inches x 30 inches, two flywheels. Piston tail rod operating 11 inches double-acting ram pump, 13rpm., running 24 hours per day. Water below this horizon raised in tanks by winding engine, one night per week.
Two Tangye pumps used in sinking 16 inches x 24 inches x 7 inches double acting piston pump.

Ventilation
Capell fan installed 1893, 17 feet 6 inches diameter by 13 feet wide, double inlet. Cross-compound engine 27 inches + 48 inches x 60 inches, Corliss valves on both cylinders, 18 feet diameter flywheel carrying 16 cotton ropes. Fan pulley 5 feet diameter, 280,000cfm. at 3 inches water gauge.

Screening Plant
No.1 Pit – 12 inches x 18 inches, horizontal engine.
No.2 Pit – 12 inches x 24 inches, horizontal engine.

Electric Light
Crompton DC Generator, 110 volts, 160 amps., 1020rpm. Robey compound engine 6 inches + 10½ inches x 12 inches, 170rpm., link belt drive to generator. Running day and night 6 days per week.

Boilers
Six Lancashire boilers, 8 feet x 30 feet. Three boilers by Daniel Adamson, three boilers Hawksley & Wild, 100psi. Chimney 180 feet high.

Seams Worked/Workforce (1954) – New Mine. U/G 374, S/F 115.
