Starkie Pit – ½ mile north-east of Westhoughton station on south side of railway. (L&YR Hindley – Lostock Jc. line)

Ventilation
Davidson (Belfast) SIROCCO fan, single inlet, 75 inches dia., direct coupled to 16 inches x 9 inches stroke inverted vertical open crank engine, 240rpm. 99,300cfm. at 1.7 inches water gauge.

Electricity
Supply from Lancashire Electric Power Company, 10,000 volts, transformed to 400 volts at colliery.

Seams Worked (1931)
Three Quarters, Half Yard, Mountain. Output 200,000 tons plus 5 million bricks.

Workforce (1931)
Westhoughton 1 & 2 – 450 U/G, 125 S/F
Starkie Pit – 276 U/G, 69 S/F.

CLOSURE
Starkie Pit – December 1933.
Westhoughton 1 & 2 – January 1937.
Pits flooded following closure of Aspull Pumping Pit.
