CEFN MAWR COLLIERY

Glyncorrwg, Afan Valley (855986)

This was a small level that was worked under licence from the National Coal Board and owned in 1957 by A.J. Boast & R. Jones of Abercregan and in the 1960s and 1970s by the Cefnmawr Colliery Limited of Ael-y-Bryn. It worked the Wenallt and Wenallt Rider seams. In 1992 the No.2 level was worked by Quotecast Limited in the Wenallt seam.

 

COTHI COLLIERY

Cymmer 855985.

This was a small mine that was worked under licence from the National Coal Board in the 1980s by Quotecast Limited. They started in 1985 but by 1986 they had failed to find any workable reserves and kept hitting old unrecorded workings. They abandoned it in 1987.

 

FOEL-Y-DUFFRYN COLLIERY

Cynon, 843941.

A small level was opened and worked by David Jones from 1954 to 1956 and then worked under licence from the National Coal Board and owned in 1956/67 by the Foel-y-Duffryn Small Mine Company Limited of Port Talbot. It employed 15 men in 1967 and produced 5,700 tons of coal in 1956.

 

 PENNANT COLLIERY

Cynonville, 825941.

This was a small level that was worked under licence from the National Coal Board in 1955/7 by C.L. Jose of Cymmer. Followed by G.J.W. Jones and T.G. Griffiths from 1958 to 1960, and then by T.G. Williams from 1960 to 1966 when it was abandoned.

Williams then opened the No.2 in 1966 but went into receivership and the mine was abandoned.
