FELIN FACH COLLIERY.
Tondu, Bridgend.

This mine was a series of three shafts sunk by Sir Robert Price in c1839 that became the site of the NCB’s Tondu Offices. They were located roughly at the mouth of the Llynfi Valley and 3.5 miles to the north of Bridgend. It mainly worked the Two-Feet-Nine, Four-Feet, Red and Upper-Nine-Feet seams.

In 1856 this mine came under the control of the Glamorgan Iron & Coal Company.

 

LLAN LLANTWIT COLLIERY
Near Tondu, Bridgend

This mine makes an appearance on the 1913 listings when it employed 20 men under the ownership of the Llan Gas and Coal Company of Bridgend. It was not listed in 1917.

 

MAENDY COLLIERY
Tondu, Bridgend

This mine consisted of at least three drifts that worked the Drydydd, North Fawr, Ail, South Fawr and Slatog seams. It was owned in 1915 by the Maendy Colliery Company with the Nos. 1 & 3 Levels producing 15,000 tons of coal in 1923 with 81 men employed underground. In 1927 W. Price was the manager and it employed 150 men. It abandoned the Slatog seam in April 1927.

MIDDLE PARK COLLIERY
Tondu, Bridgend

This small drift mine was owned by North’s Navigation Collieries and worked the Bone seam. It employed six men in 1923 and in 1924 when it was abandoned on the 31st of August.

 

NEW TONDU COLLIERY
Tondu, Bridgend

This was a small mine that was owned by T.J. David and employed three men in 1912.

 

PARK FARM COLLIERY
Tondu, Bridgend

This was a small level that was owned by North’s Navigation Collieries (1889) Limited and was listed as temporarily stopped in 1923 and abandoned on the 31st of August 1924.

 

ROCK FAWR GAS COAL COLLIERY
Tondu, Bridgend.

This mine was opened in 1924 and in 1932 and 1935 as being owned and managed by T.J. David of Porthcawl. It employed five men in 1924, 14 men in 1924 and five men in 1940. In 1933 it employed 13 men but in 1937 it employed four men.

It worked the Rock Fawr seam for gas and house coals. It was not listed in 1921 or 1947.
