Llanharry, near Llantrisant
Not to be confused with the iron ore mine, this colliery was owned in 1858 by Cadman & Plant and abandoned the Nine-Feet and Six-Feet seams in 1874.
On the 25th of August 1859, William Davies, aged 22 years and a Collier, was killed under a fall of the roof. On the 20th of January 1863, Llewellin Yorush, aged only 14 years, and a sinker, was killed by defective machinery (sinking shaft). On the 21st of January 1864, George Dobbs, aged 21 years and a collier: died under a fall of the scaffold in the shaft.
As with Llanharan Colliery, Llanharry worked the difficult geology of the southern outcrop of the Coalfield. The seams are sharply tilted, or vertical along the anticline set up by the south crop, the seams are virtually unworkable and badly broken, and to the north, a thrust area makes the coal seams unworkable.
