Having been cut out by the valley of West Stonesdale, the Tan Hill Coal continues westward into Westmorland where, on Kaber Fell, it has been worked from some fifty shafts at Kettlepot Colliery and Nab Pits. In 1802 two pits, from 14 to 20 fms deep, were said to be working two feet of very good quality coal. These pits were drained by a Day Level.
