Michael John Carroll was killed in action in September, 1943, at the age of 26.

The son of Mr. C.M. Carroll, A.R.S.M., M.Inst.M.M., he entered the Royal School of Mines in 1936 and had completed the first three years of the mining course when he left to join the Royal Artillery at the outbreak of war. He had attained the rank of captain at the time of his death.

Captain Carroll was elected a Student of the Institution in 1939.
