Percivale Knight Allen was killed in action on April 2nd, 1917, whilst serving as Captain in the West Yorkshire Regiment.

He spent two years as assayer and chemist on gold mines in the Rossland district, British Columbia, and afterwards proceeded to the Transvaal, where he remained for five years engaged in the capacity of sampler to the Durban, Roodeport and other gold mines on the Witwatersrand.

On his return to England in 1907 he was appointed manager of the Ramsley Exploration Syndicate at Oakhampton, Devonshire, and held this position for about two years. Subsequently he spent a year with the Abosso Gold Mining Co. at Tarkwa, West Africa.

He joined the Army in the autumn of 1914, and saw a considerable amount of active service before he met with his death.

Mr. Allen was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1908.
