Edgar Bonds was drowned whilst bathing, at Hua Hin, Siam, on April 7th, 1923.

Born at Redruth, Cornwall, he graduated at the Redruth School of Mines, passing out in 1903 with a 1st class diploma and 1st class Honours in Surveying (City and Guilds of London Institute) being also awarded a silver medal for the Honours grade of the Raising, Preparation, and Dressing of Ores. On the completion of his course he joined the Wheal Racer Co., at St. lves, in the capacity of surveyor.

ln the next year he proceeded to Egypt and for three years held the position of general assistant to the Barrimia Mining and Exploration Co., Edfou, Upper Egypt. Returning home in 1911, he was appointed surveyor to the Bibiani Consolidated, Ltd., West Africa, and held that position until operations were suspended.

In 1915 he joined Prestea Block “A” as chief surveyor, but resigned the post in the same year to accept the appointment as mine captain of the Taquah mine of the Taquah Mining and Exploration Co., with whom he remained for seven years.

In 1922 he proceeded to Siam on reporting work, and a few weeks prior to his death, which occurred while on holiday, had returned from along expedition through Southern Siam.

Mr. Bonds was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1908, and was transferred to Associateship in 1913.
