Frederick Scott McKenzie Bader died in South Africa in 1936, at the age of 28.

After a few months’ training in sampling and assaying in London he joined the Manganese Corporation (1929) Ltd., at Postmasburg, Cape Province, in December, 1929.

In 1931 he was for three months learner-miner at the Langlaagte Estate gold mine, and in May of the same year joined Van Ryn Deep, Ltd., as learner-sampler. After a short period as assistant sampler, he became an official learner with the same company, and in 1934 was appointed shift boss. He obtained the Union of South Africa Mine Manager’s Certificate, and at the time of his death was employed by the West Roodepoort Gold Mining Co., Ltd.

Mr. Bader was elected a Student of the Institution in 1933 and was transferred to Associateship in 1936.
