Roland Blanchard died on 15 January, 1966. He was 74 years of age.

Educated at the University of Minnesota, Mr. Blanchard gained the degree of B.A. in geology in 1919 and spent the following five years as field geologist with a number of companies in the Unites States, Canada and Mexico.

From 1924-26 he carried out geological investigations on ore possibilities in Arizona and New Mexico for Phelps-Dodge Corporation and then joined Consolidated Coppermines Corporation,

Nevada. In 1929 he joined Mining Trust, Ltd., being in charge of geological investigations in Queensland and New Guinea, and in 1931 was appointed chief geologist with Mount lsa Mines. Ltd. Mr. Blanchard remained in that position until his retirement in 1949, when he returned to the United States to take up residence in California.

The author of numerous papers dealing with economic geology, Mr. Blanchard was a member of several professional bodies. He was elected to Membership of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy in 1934.
