Walter Beringer died of pneumonia at Naraguta, Northern Nigeria, on October 18th, 1918, aged 28 years.

He was educated at the Camborne School of Mines, under his father, the late J.J. Beringer. After obtaining his diploma, in 1909, he spent a year as assistant surveyor to Mr. J.S. Henderson, of Camborne, and then proceeded to South Africa where for three years he acted as sampler and surveyor on various gold mines of the Rand. 

In 1914 he went to the tin fields of Northern Nigeria and for nearly four years held the position of assayer and surveyor to the Ex Lands of Nigeria Tin Mines, Ltd.

Mr. Beringer was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1909, and was transferred to Associateship in 1916.
