William Frederic McBryde Broun died at Colombo on July 18th, 1912, at the age of 25.

He was the elder son of a well-known captain in the P. & O. service, and received his professional training at the Royal School of Mines.

On completing his course, at the end of 1908, he went to Queensland, where he had obtained an appointment on the mines of the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Co., Ltd. He held this post for three and a half years, and was returning to England when he was struck down by typhoid fever, which necessitated his being landed at Colombo, on July 10th, 1912. He died in hospital eight days later.

Mr. Broun was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1908.
