Richard Arthur Ormerod Claudet died suddenly at his residence in Worthing on April 1st, 1945, at the age of 49.

Major Claudet, a son of the late Arthur C. Claudet, Honorary Treasurer of the Institution from its foundation until his death in 1913 and President in the Session 1906-7, was educated at Aldenham School, leaving school in 1914 to join the Army. He served throughout the Great War, at first in the H.A.C., and later with commissioned rank in the Regular Army, and was a member of the Reserve of Officers for twenty years.

On demobilization in 1919 he entered King’s College, London, and obtained the London in Chemistry in 1921. He then joined Messrs; F. Claudet, Ltd., assayers and metallurgical chemists, a. company founded by his grandfather, the late Frederick Claudet. He was appointed a director of the company, a position also held by his brother, Mr. F.H.B. Claudet, M.Inst.M.M., and was actively engaged in the company’s work until his death.

Major Claudet, who was an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chemistry, was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1925.
