Walter Douglas Clinton died in hospital at Champion Reefs in June, 1911.

He studied mining at Henderson’s Mining School, Truro, and for four years subsequently, 1901 to 1905, he was engaged as draughtsman to Messrs. John Taylor & Sons. In 1905 he went to the Kolar Gold Fields as surveyor, and in the following year was appointed chief surveyor of the department, where he remained until the date of his death.

Mr. Clinton was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1908.
