George Douglas Chamberlin Dunmore died in India of dengue fever in November, 1942, at the early age of 29.

He entered the Royal School of Mines in 1930, obtaining his A.R.S.M. and B.Sc. (Engineering) of London University with honours in metallurgy in 1934. In July of the same year he left England to take up an appointment as assistant treatment officer with the Champion Reef Gold Mines of India, Ltd.

He was a Lieutenant in the Kolar Gold Fields Battalion of the Auxiliary Force (India), and shortly before his death obtained a commission in the Royal Indian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He had gone to Bombay for intensive training before taking up his new duties, and within ten days had succumbed.

Mr. Dunmore was elected a Student of the Institution in 1934.
