John Albert Dennison died at Reigate, Surrey, on April 17th, 1937, at the age of 64.

He was educated at Felsted School, University College School, and University College, London, and entered the engineering branch of the telegraph department, Cape Civil Service, in 1890. Here he served until 1895, when he entered the engineering department of Messrs. H. Eckstein & Co., Johannesburg, and Messrs. Wernher, Beit & Co., London. A year after his appointment he became personal assistant to the late Hennen Jennings (consulting engineer to Messrs. Wernher, Beit & Co.), a position which he held for the following nine years, during which he accompanied Mr. Jennings on visits of inspection to mines in South Africa and the U.S.A. In 1906 he was appointed assistant engineer in charge of the engineering department of the Anglo-French Exploration Co., Ltd., in London, and acted as consulting engineer to the company until his death.

He was the author of a paper on ‘Working Costs on Mines, as practised on the Rand’ in vol. xviii of the Transactions.

Mr. Dennison was elected a Student of the Institution in 1902, and was transferred to Associateship in 1904 and to Membership in 1908. He was a member of Council from 1923 onwards and was elected a Vice-President of the Institution shortly before his death.
