Edmund Adrian Compton Gay-Roberts was killed in action on May 27th, 1941, while serving with the rank of sergeant in the 1st Battalion of the Kenya Regiment. He was 26 years of age.

He was educated at St. Peter’s School, Exmouth, Devon, and later at King Edward VII School at Johannesburg where he matriculated in December, 1932. In the following spring he was engaged as a learner sampler and subsequently as assistant surveyor on the Cam and Motor Mine.

In December, 1935, he was appointed chief surveyor of the Sherwood Starr Mine, and afterwards became manager of the Muriel Mine. At the time of his death he was assistant consulting engineer to the London and Rhodesian Mining and Land Co.

Mr. Gay-Roberts was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1936.
