Edward Gamman was killed in action in France in October, 1917, whilst serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery.

He was 27 years of age and was educated at Marlborough and the Royal School of Mines. From 1911 to 1912 he spent a year as amalgamator and battery man with the Taquah Mining and Exploration Co., Ltd., Gold Coast; and after a short period of diamond drilling in Wales, he accepted a post as chemist and assayer to the Helston Valley Tin Co., Ltd., Cornwall, which position he occupied for about a year.

He then returned to West Africa and was engaged in tin dressing and prospecting in Nigeria for eighteen months, to August, 1915, when he resigned his appointment and came to England to join the Army.

Mr. Gamman was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1910.
