August Ossian Hoffman died at Stockholm, Sweden, on April 26th, 1913, aged 35.
He was educated at the Royal Technical High School, Stockholm, and in 1899 and 1900 was engaged in the Iron mining industry in Sweden and Germany. For the next five years he was with the Syssort Estate, Ural, Russia, undertaking various branches of work connected with the production of coal, iron, copper and gold. From 1905 to 1913, he acted as manager for the same estate at the Polevskoj Copper Mines and Works, Ural.
He had returned from Ural to his home in Stockholm about the middle of April, 1913, but unfortunately had contracted a cold in St. Petersburg while on the journey. This developed into inflammation of the brain cuticle, and he died after three days of acute suffering.
Mr. Hoffman was elected a Member of the Institution in 1911.
