Claude Middleton Henley died at his residence in Camborne early in 1940, at the age of 63.

On leaving school he was employed for about six years in the china clay industry in Cornwall, and in 1898 he was awarded a three years’ scholarship to the Camborne School of Mines, where he obtained First-Class Certificates in mine surveying, assaying, etc. At the conclusion of his course, in 1901, he, was appointed assistant instructor in the mine surveying and mining departments at Camborne, and at the same time he was elected by the County Council to conduct special classes in mechanics and surveying.

Three years later he went to the Federated Malay States to take up an appointment as surveyor at the Raub Australian Gold Mines, Paliang, and in 1908 he was engaged as mine manager to the same company. From 1930 he was in Northern ‘Nigeria,’ as manager of the Lower Bisichi (Nigeria) Tin Mines, Ltd., and was on leave in Cornwall at the date of his death.

Mr. Henley was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909.
