Douglas George Hobbs died at Penzance on 7th August, 1936, at the age of 24.

He was educated at the Penzance County School, and entered the Camborne School of Mines in 1928, obtaining the Associateship of the School in 1931. After working for a few months at West Wheel Squires, Cornwall, he returned to the School for a one-year post-graduate course, and in 1934 secured an appointment with the Gold Coast Selection Trust, Ltd. He made two visits to the Gold Coast, and was on leave at the time of his death.

Mr. Hobbs was elected a Student of the Institution in 1934.
