Ernest Littleton Hay died in Malaya on May 8th, 1939, as the result of a flying accident, at the age of 36.

He was at the Royal School of Mines from 1920 to 1925, and was awarded the diploma, of A.R.S.M. In the following year he was engaged by the Malay-Siamese Prospecting Co., Ltd., as prospector and field engineer in Siam and Malaya, and in March, 1930, he went to Burma to take up e position as surveyor and assayer at the Mawchi mines. He subsequently went to West Africa, where he was engaged on the Bibinni Mine, and to South Africa, Where he was on the Durban Roodepoort Deep. A period of prospecting in Southern Rhodesia followed, after which he returned to Malaya, and engaged in consulting practice in partnership with Messrs. Park and Francis.

Mr. Hay was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1925 was elected an Associate in 1930.
