Frank Humphreys died in Johannesburg on 1st October, 1965. He was 80 years of age.

Educated at Torquay School of Science, East London Technical College and Camborne School of Mines in 1905 Mr. Humphreys was appointed sampler and Assistant surveyor with Roodeport Gold Mining Co., Ltd. In the following year he joined Simmer and Jack Pty. Mines, Ltd., in a similar capacity, subsequently being promoted chief surveyor. He remained with the company until 1909 and then became manager of Glynns Extension Gold Mining Co., Ltd., holding that post until 1911.

From 1911 to 1918 he was employed by Simmer Deep, Ltd., initially as chief surveyor and then as mine overseer, and from 1918 to 1925 was manager of Glynns Pretoria Gold Mining Co., Ltd. For the next four years Mr. Humphreys was manager of Sabie (Transvaal) Gold Mining Co., Ltd., and was subsequently engaged in managerial capacities by Cape Coast Exploration, Ltd., Western Reefs Exploration and Development Co., Ltd., and Rhodesia Broken Hill Development Co., Ltd.

Mr. Humphreys was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1928.
