John Edward Healey died in Johannesburg on January 3rd, 1935, from pneumonia, at the age of 59.

He was American by birth and was educated at Stanford University, California. He received his early practical experience at mines in Yuma, Arizona, at the Aveno mines and the El Oro Mining and Railway Company’s properties in Mexico, and at Leyland, Arizona; and in 1903 went to South Africa, with which country he was associated for the remainder of his career, at the Crown Reef, Simmer & Jack, Brakpan, East Rand, and other mines. In 1923 he was appointed consulting engineer to the Central Mining and Investment Corporation. Ltd., and in that position was directly responsible for the technical supervision of the mines comprised in the group.

Mr. Healey was elected a Member of the Institution in 1981.
