John McMaster Hutchison was killed in action in France on October 22nd, 1916, at the age of 27 years. Two months after the outbreak of war he joined Lovat’s Scouts, with whom he served as a trooper, afterwards obtaining a commission in the Gordon Highlanders.

He was educated at Camborne School of Mines, where he took the full mining course with credit, and on its termination was awarded an Institution Post-graduate Course, which he took at the Broken Hill Proprietary Mines, New South Wales. He was at Broken Hill from 1910 till 1913, and upon the satisfactory completion of his course, he obtained the Institution, certificate.

Mr. Hutchison was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1909.
