David Lyon died in April, 1941, as the result of enemy action, while on his way home from West Africa, in his fiftieth year.

His professional career was confined exclusively to West Africa, first, from 1914 to 1925 at the Abontiakoon-Mines, Ltd., Tarkwa, then with the African Manganese Co., Ltd., at Nsuta, until 1930, and with the Gold Coast Banket Areas, Ltd., until 1936, when he was appointed manager of the South Banket Areas, Ltd. He had served in almost every capacity on these properties, from reduction assistant to general manager, which position he held with the Gold Coast Banket and South Banket mines at the date of his death.

Mr. Lyon was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1938.
