William Le Mars was killed in a blasting accident at Shabanie mine, Southern Rhodesia, on April 12th, 1938, at the age of 23.

He was educated at the City of London Freemen’s School from 1928 to 1932, and two years later joined Kenya, Consolidated Goldfields, Ltd., as a learner miner. In 1936 he worked as a miner at Watende mine, also in Kenya, and later left for Shabanie;

Mr. Le Mars was elected a Student of the Institution in July, 1936.
