Ross Kenneth MacArtney died at his home in Hampshire on August 2nd, 1932, at the age of 60.

An Australian by birth, he received his technical training first at the Melbourne Grammar School, where he was awarded the Ward Cole Engineering Prize, and later at the Melbourne University, where he graduated in 1895 with the degree of B.Civ.Eng., ten years later receiving from the same University the degree of Master of Mining Engineering. His first appointment was as draughtsman at the South Mine, Broken Hill, N.S.W., which he retained for only six months, before removing to Tasmania, where he joined the staff of the Tasmania Gold Mining Co., Ltd., first as draughtsman and two years later as manager of the reduction works.

Returning to Australia in 1907 he was for two years general manager of the Crowle Creek and Shuttleton Mines, at Cobar, N.S.W. In 1908 he went back to Tasmania to take up the position of chief engineer, and acting general manager, of the Mount Bischoff Tin Mine, with which he was connected for four years.

In 1912 he came to England and for four years was general manager of the Cornwall Tailings Co., Ltd., and Carnon Valley Co., Ltd. In 1916 he left Cornwall for Northern Rhodesia, where he was for upwards of ten years the General manager of the Rhodesia Broken Hill Development Co., Ltd. His latest years were spent in England, with occasional trips abroad.

Mr. MacArtney was elected a Member of the Institution in 1914.
