James Owen Nodder was killed in a mine accident at Cerro de Pasco, Peru, on 11th March, 1952. He was 31 years of age.

Educated at Hoe Grammar School, Plymouth, and Plymouth and Devonport Technical College, he enlisted in H.M. Forces in 1940, and after training in India he was commissioned in the Royal Engineers in September, 1941. He served in India and Italy and held the rank of major on his release from the army in 1947. He began his training at the Camborne School of Metalliferous Mining later that year and obtained the A.C.S.M. in 1949. Mr. Nodder then took up a post with Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation, Ltd., by whom he was employed at the time of his death.

He was elected a Student of the Institution in 1949.
