Samuel Birkbeck Newall died, after a, long illness, in London on February 28th, 1909.

He was the second son of the late William Newall of Zacatecas, Mexico, and was born in 1852.

Educated at Cheltenham College, he afterwards studied at the Royal School of Mines. He started his professional career at the Rio Tinto Mines, Spain, and afterwards spent ten years in various mining centres in Mexico. After residing for some years in England he returned to Mexico, where, with the exception of a short stay in Chile, he remained till within a few months of his death.

Mr. Newall was elected a, Member of the Institution in 1897.
