Walter Normann died in London on 17th February, 1951, at the age of 65.

He was of Norwegian nationality and studied at the Royal Bergakademie, Freiberg, from October, 1907, receiving the Diploma of mining engineer at the end of 1912. He travelled in Europe visiting coal and metal mines until his engagement in August, 1913, as assistant mining engineer at Redjang Lebong Gold Mining Co., Ltd., Sumatra. After three years he took up the appointment of assistant mining engineer to Simau Gold Mining Co., and in 1918 was promoted resident manager. He held this post for seven years, in 1927 being appointed general manager of Redjang Lebong Gold Mining Co., Ltd., where he remained until his retirement in 1931.

Mr. Normann was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1927.
