Dennis Michael O’Donahue was killed by bandits at the office of Lahat mine, Malaya, on 23rd September, 1951. He was 21 years of age.

Born in India, he was educated at Ushaw College, Durham, from 1939 to 1947 and then entered the School of Metalliferous Mining (Cornwall). While at the school he had experience of mining and mineral dressing in England and Scandinavia, and gained the A.C.S.M. in 1950. Mr. O’Donahue then left England to take an appointment with Messrs. Osborne and Chappel, of Ipoh, Malaya.

He was elected a Student of the Institution in October, 1949.
