Francis Douglas Osborne died in Dublin on May 19th, 1923, in his 60th year.

He went to the Malay States in 1890 to undertake the management of the Leh Chin Mining Co., Ltd., at

Perak, and two years later, in association with the late Mr. E.R. Pike, acquired and proceeded to develop and work the Gopeng Alluvial Tin property, of which he became general manager in 1894. In 1898 he developed the Seremban property, followed by the Kinta Tin Mines, Ltd., and the Tronoh Mines, Ltd., of all of which he undertook the general management. After the death of Mr. Pike, Mr. Osborne entered, in 1901, into partnership with Mr. W.R.H. Chappel, and the firm of Osborne and Chappel have since acted as managers of a large group of companies in the Malay States. Mr. Osborne returned from Malaya in 1912 and resided in Ireland, though still retaining his seat on the boards of the various companies in which he was interested.

Mr Osborne was elected a Member of the Institution in 1902.
