Noel Eric Posselt died in Salisbury, Rhodesia, on 8th April, 1963, at the age of 36.

Born in South Africa, Mr. Posselt was educated at Bergville Government School and Pietermaritzburg College, Natal.

His practical training began in 1942 when he joined Rhokana Corporation, Ltd., as learner chemist and in 1944 he took up a similar post with Nchanga Consolidated Copper Mines, Ltd. From 1945 to 1952 Mr. Posselt held the post of unqualified chemist with the same company.

In 1952 he began a course of study at Camborne School of Mines and three years later gained the first class Associateship of the School.

He then returned to Nchanga Consolidated Copper Mines, Ltd., and over the next four years held the positions of metallurgical assistant, senior metallurgist, acting assistant concentrator superintendent and plant metallurgist. In 1959 Mr. Posselt was appointed assistant concentrator superintendent with Bancroft Mines, Ltd., Zambia, and two years later joined Rhoanglo Mine Services, Kitwe.

Mr. Posselt was elected to Student Membership of the Institution in 1953 was transferred to Associate Membership in 1959.
