Francis Clough Robinson died in Sheffield in 1930, at the age of 59.

During the years 1888 to 1890 he went through the full diploma course in the chemical department of the City & Guilds of London Technical College, Finsbury, and on completion acted as assistant demonstrator in the evening classes of the college. In 1890, he was appointed assistant chemist and assayer in Mr. F. Claudet’s assay office, Coleman Street, and in March, 1896, went to Sheffield as assayer and chief chemist at the smelting works and gold, silver and platinum refinery of the Sheffield Smelting Co., Ltd., with which company he remained for the remainder of his life.

He contributed a paper to the Transactions (Vol. xxxv) on ‘Palladium; A method for the rapid estimation of small quantities’, and occasionally contributed to the discussion of other papers.

Mr. Robinson was admitted to studentship of the Institution in 1894, and was transferred to Associateship in 1908.
