Frederick Bennett Reece died of wounds in France in April, 1918. He was about 35 years of age, and had obtained a commission in the South Staffordshire Regiment during the early months of 1915. He was afterwards transferred to the Royal Engineers and was promoted Captain in March, 1916.

He studied mining at the College of Mines of California University and graduated in 1906. After short periods of metallurgical and reporting work in Idaho and Mexico he spent the first half of the year 1907 in the cyanide department of the El Oro Mining Co. of Mexico; and the remainder of the year on vacation in England. Returning to America at the end of 1907, he obtained an appointment with the Homestake Mining Co., of Lead, South Dakota, where he remained until 1910, when he proceeded to Mexico to superintend work on the Cabrera Mines in Jalisco. Three years later he was engaged on professional Work at Globe, Arizona, where he remained until shortly after the outbreak of the war, when he came home to assist his country.

Mr. Reece was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909.
