Kolagotla Bhimeswara Swamy died on 6th June, 1950, at the King Edward Memorial Hospital at Lucknow at the age of 43.

He gained the B.Sc.(Hons.) degree at Calcutta University in 1927 and the Associateship of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, in mining engineering in 1933, and from 1935 to 1937 worked for Consolidated Tin Mines of Burma, Ltd., in Tavoy. He was subsequently employed in India by the Tata Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., for two years, and in 1940 was appointed lecturer at the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

He came to England in 1946 to take a refresher course at the Royal School of Mines, and returned to his post in India in the following year. In January, 1949, he left Dhanbad on securing the appointment of Professor in the College of Mining and Metallurgy, Benares Hindu University.

Professor Swamy was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1947.
