Flying Officer Maurice Gordon Sheerman, Royal Air Force was reported missing, believed killed, in October, 1943, and official confirmation has now been received of his death, at the age of 27.

For two and a half years he attended the Sir John Cass Technical Institute, Aldgate, and commenced his career as analytical metallurgical chemist at the Eyre Smelting Co., Ltd., London, in 1936. In 1937 he was employed as assayer for eight months by the Estates Management Co., Ltd., Axim, Gold Coast, and in August of that year he took up the position of assistant assayer and reduction assistant to the Ariston Gold Mines (1929), Ltd., Prestea.

He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941, the year in which he was elected a Student of the Institution.
