Nicholas Samwell died in Tavoy, Burma, on October 5th, 1936, at the age of 71.

He was born at Newquay, Cornwall, and educated at Brisbane, Queensland, where he was articled in 1881. Until 1890 he obtained experience in various mines and metallurgical works in Queensland, and later managed mines in Borneo, Malaya, Siam, and the Netherlands East Indies. In 1906 he went to Burma, where he worked for the rest of his life, during the last 20 years of which he was resident in Tavoy.

Mr. Samwell was elected a Member of the Institution in 1900.
