Tom Simpson died in Johannesburg in October, 1928.

He entered the Royal School of Mines in 1894, and graduated as A.R.S.M. in 1899. From 1903 onwards, his professional career was confined entirely to South Africa, on the Robinson, French Band, Ferreira, East Rand Proprietary, and finally the Crown Mines, Ltd., of which he was manager from 1912.

Mr. Simpson was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1900, and was transferred to Associateship in 1911, and to Membership in 1914.
